Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council's number one design award for 2008.

The owners of this detached villa style residence decided to remove a former 1920s sun porch on the front of the house and create a new sun loggia and conservatory on the western side of the building.
Traditional materials and construction techniques were used throughout the project and local craftspeople carried out all the work, including the stain glass and ironwork.

Judges considered:

This to be a fine restoration, in keeping with the 1920s style house.
Detailing of the joinery and stain glass work were excellent.
The restoration also helped to restore the relationship between the garden and the house.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council's number two design award for 2008.

The Lookout is the conversion of a disused building into a dwelling, which originally formed part of the entrance to the Saltburn Valley Gardens for the patrons of the Zetland Hotel. High quality materials and craftsmanship were used throughout the refurbishment to replace original features and convert the building into a useable space.

Judges considered:

This an impressive and very inventive reuse of a derelict building.
The building had been beautifully restored with great attention to detail, in particular the matching brickwork and balustrade railings.
